About Alfred

Alfred Dunham is an accomplished writer, scientist, photographer, and sailor whose career spans diverse fields, each marked by excellence and innovation. With a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree earned in 1977 and a deep background in molecular genetics, Alfred's groundbreaking research on DNA/DNA hybridization—predicting a 1% genetic difference between humans and chimpanzees—was vindicated years later by the Human Genome Project.

His academic pursuits also include a Master of Arts in 1968, where his research explored the metabolic stages of the Schistosoma mansoni life cycle. Despite refusing a PhD in 1974 for personal reasons, Alfred’s contributions to science have been profound and influential.

Outside the realm of science, Alfred's creativity flourishes. He is a master screenwriter with a deep portfolio of scripts that have earned accolades, including semifinalist and finalist positions in major competitions like Scriptapalooza and ISA. His novel, A Cup of Coffee (2011), forms the basis for several of his screenplays, which explore themes of love, identity, and the human condition. Notable works include The Paradoxical Cat, Why, Promises, and Bahamut, all reflecting his ability to craft compelling, thought-provoking narratives.

Alfred's artistic talents extend to photography, having been a member of the Professional Photographers of America and working as a medical audiovisual printer at Loma Linda University Medical Center. His eye for detail and storytelling through images complements his work in film and writing.

A lifelong sailor, Alfred has been inducted into the American Model Yachting Association Hall of Fame, reflecting his passion for the sport. He also served as the editor of Model Yachting from 1984 to 1992 and has placed in national championship regattas.
